Part One of Advanced Science Fiction & Fantasy: Writing the 21st century myth
Two hundred years ago Western civilisation was gripped by a revolution. Science was tearing down religion, and changing how we saw reality. Religious myths had given us answers to eternal questions. Who are we? Why are we here? What does it all mean? Now belief in the myths of religion was collapsing.
Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley was a young intellectual who, because of her famous mother, had met many of the great scientists, philosophers and artists of the early 1800s. At the age of just nineteen MWS wrote a novel that gave new answers to our eternal questions, and created a new mythos for the age of science.
The novel was Frankenstein: A Modern Prometheus.
The new mythos would become known as…Science Fiction.
