Philip K Dick’s book of resistance in an empire of lies

“How does one fashion a book of resistance, a book of truth in an empire of falsehood, or a book of rectitude in an empire of vicious lies? How does one do that right in front of the enemy? How does one do that in a truly future technological state? Is it possible for freedom and independence to rise in new ways under new conditions? That is, will new tyrannies abolish these protests? Or will there be new responses by the spirit that we can’t anticipate?”

  1. I guess this is how the Russians felt after WW2. Instead of Hitler, Adam Smith and his Capitalist heirs oppress the proletariat.

It seems to fully grasp the…mystery of freedom the narrative must focus on possibilities instead of impossibilities.

If you want to focus on oppression, the impossibilities, you have to manufacture a type of surveillance state. A type that doesn’t require human monitors. But this poses a problem. What algorithms can be programmed into A.I. that cannot be tricked by clever, conscious, humans? A.I. that is not conscious is more dangerous and suppressive than A.I. that is conscious? After all sentience requires self-pity before pity can be invoked towards others.
