I was working on an essay about the swimming pools of J G Ballard.
Then the dismal Apple TV adaptation of Foundation ended, and I thought “I’ll just do something quick about Asimov to explain Foundation for all the people who have been disappointed by the show”. Just a short video essay.
Two weeks later I am still tinkering with the essay. Because Asimov is one of the all time great science fiction authors, Foundation is a classic, and there is a lot to say.
This has also become a twin brother to the Ursula Le Guin essay, complete with AI animations. That video essay also became the most watched ever on the Science Fiction youtube channel, it just now passed 80,000 views.
Members of the Science Fiction community will find the first complete draft of The Asimov Essay linked on GDocs after the paywall below. You’re welcome to read. Any comments you make will help me get to the final draft.
