He won’t be. He’ll be an Inquistor or Rogue Trader or something
But that’s pussying out
No Astartes, no Warhammer
Warhammer, and by extension the multi-billion dollar business that is Games Workshop, only exists because of
SPACE MARINES
Yes, GW…borrowed…lots of parts from Heinlein, Herbert and others
But the Astartes are the most powerful expression of the post-human warrior that science fiction has yet conjured
And post-humanity is careening down the rails of our deterministic future right at us
Cavill might want to do it. He’s a Warhammer trufan. But he’ll be derailed by his team, who will tell him his character needs to be “relatable”
NO! Nothing in the grimdark Warhammer 40k mythos should be “relatable”
In the future there is only WAR
If Cavill can make his Warhammer show sing, it will be by making it as relentlessly bleak and UN-relatable as the WH40k lore itself
And that means inhabiting the most inhuman post-human part of WH40k
the Astartes
But it won’t happen
